Book allowances will be available to eligible students beginning January 4, 2010.
All books must be purchased or prepaid by January 20, 2010.  The book allowance will expire on this date.
Students who have not purchased their books by this date will have to do so without the benefit of a book allowance.

Book Allowances FAQs

Who is eligible for a book allowance?
Students who have Financial Aid in excess of their charges can be eligible for a book allowance.

How do I determine how much of a book allowance I am eligible for?
A student is eligible for a book allowance if their Financial Aid is more than their charges.  The amount of a book allowance is your Financial Aid less your charges; for a maximum of $650.00.  Example:  A student who has Financial Aid in excess of charges of $1200 would receive an allowance of $650.00.  A student who has Financial Aid in excess of charges of $200 would only receive an allowance of $200.00.

When is my book allowance available?
Book allowances will be available for students after 12:00 p.m. on January 4, 2010.  The book allowance is available through January 20, 2010.  Book allowances are not available beyond this date.  If your book is not available at the time of purchase you may pre-pay with your book allowance.

How do I use my book allowance?
If you have Financial Aid for the current semester and need to purchase books, you may do so by visiting and/or calling one of the bookstores.
Please remember that you, the student, are responsible for knowing how much aid you have over what is owed on your account and you cannot charge over this amount.  Any amounts charged over your refund amount will have to be paid out of pocket by you, the student.

What if my Financial Aid is not processed at this time?
If your Financial Aid is not processed, you can call, visit, or email the Financial Aid Office to determine if additional information is needed.  You can also come to Fee Payment on your scheduled day to see Financial Aid.  The Financial Aid Office will assist you in determining your options.

What if a 3rd party source will pay for my books?
Students with 3rd party aid that will specifically pay for books will need to get a confirmation from the 3rd party source.  This confirmation should have specific information regarding the payment of books. The student will bring this information to the Scholarship Office for validation.  Once the Scholarship Office has verified the information, the student may use this at the bookstore.

What if my book is not in stock?
A student can use money from their book allowance to pre-pay for books not in stock.

What if my book allowance has expired and I need to purchase another book?
Once the book allowances have expired, you will need to purchase the book with your own resources.

What if I am taking a B-Term Class?
Once book allowances expire, you may no longer use them.  Therefore, if you decide to enroll in a course after the expiration of the book allowance, you will not be able to use your book allowance for purchases.  Often times, students enroll in B-Term Courses after the expiration of book allowances.  If you do so, a book allowance will not be available for your B-Term Course.

What if I need more money on my book allowance?
If your books cost more than $650.00, and you have enough aid, your allowance can be increased.  Please bring a receipt from the bookstore with the amount necessary to finish your book purchase to a Financial Aid Representative and your situation will be reviewed.

Can I buy my books from more than one place?
Yes, students can purchase books from any of the participating bookstores.  Please contact the Financial Aid Office for a list.

What if I have a question about my book charges?
If you have a question regarding your charges please inquire with the bookstore where the charges were made.
