Changes to the Book Voucher Process - Effective Fall 2009

Students will no longer receive paper book vouchers based on Financial Aid; instead, students will receive a book allowance on their NSU One Card (Student ID) for up to $650.00.

Book allowances will be available to eligible students beginning August 14, 2009.
All books must be purchased by September 2, 2009.  The book allowance will expire on this date.
Students who have not purchased their books by this date will have to do so without the benefit of a book allowance.

FAQs to help with this transition:

Who is eligible for a book allowance?
Students who have Financial Aid in excess of their charges can be eligible for a book allowance.

Many athletes will pick up a paper book voucher from the Compliance Office as a part of their scholarship.

How do I determine how much of a book allowance I am eligible for?
A student is eligible for a book allowance if their Financial Aid is more than their charges.  The amount of a book allowance is your Financial Aid less your charges; for a maximum of $650.00.  Example:  A student who has Financial Aid in excess of charges of $1200 would receive an allowance of $650.00.  A student who has Financial Aid in excess of charges of $200 would only receive an allowance of $200.00.

When is my book allowance available?
Book allowances will be available for students on the afternoon of August 14, 2009.  The book allowance is available through September 2, 2009.  Book allowances are not available beyond this date.  If your book is not available at the time of purchase you may pre-pay.

How do I use my book allowance?
If you have Financial Aid for the fall and need to purchase books, you may do so by visiting and/or calling one of the bookstores.
Please remember that you, the student, are responsible for knowing how much aid you have over what is owed on your account and you cannot charge over this amount.  Any amounts charged over your refund amount will have to be paid out of pocket by you, the student.

How do I use my book allowance if I am an internet student?
You will call a bookstore to place your order. The bookstore will use your Campus Wide ID Number to place the order and purchase your books. You may be asked other identifying information to verify your identity.

How do I obtain a One Card?
The information needed to obtain a One Card is available online: http://www.nsula.edu/onecard/.

What if a 3rd party source will pay for my books?
Students with 3rd party aid that will specifically pay for books will need to get a confirmation from the 3rd party source.  This confirmation should have specific information regarding the payment of books. The student will bring this information to the Scholarship Office for validation.  Once the Scholarship Office has verified the information, the student may use this at the bookstore.

What if my book is not in stock?
A student can use money from their book allowance to pre-pay for books not in stock.
